Noob alert! Best tools with multiplre remote djs

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a shoutcast streaming package and we intend to have multiple remote djs...

How do i effectively do the following if they are streaming remotely

> Smooth transition from dj feed to playlist on computer

> Have multiple logins

> Force station ids and commercials

I intend to have a dedicated computer streaming a palylist during non-dj slots and then the Dj could remotely access the machine before his/her show and turn off feed and then connect his feed to the streaming server

Any suggestion on how all of this should bedone... i have seen some broadcasting tools but they seem to be only affective if the djs were at the location where the software was installed... or am i not digging deeper..

pls let me know and give me some references..

thanks!

Dose your account have AutoDJ? If so you can place some songs on the site and play them. You can also setup DJ's accounts/ Log-in's and when they log on the AutoDJ stops and when they log off it restarts.

Note: By no means am I one to tell you how to do it. There are people here that know how to do just about everything, I am still learning myself :) But I know thats how AutoDJ works basically, Log On it, turns off, Log Out, it restarts. Sounds easy but I never tried it. lol

"I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . I only do dry reads, if you want FX's you'll have to add them, I might add them. If you use my voice please link to my art site AbstractArtist.xyz, Thank you

you can do this with a program call Ultra VNC. It is a remote access software where the person at the other end sees the remote pc on their pc. I have done it this way and it works well. The dj can stop the automation and start his stream into the remote pc.All done with shoutcast. When his show has finished he stops his stream and starts the automation again.Only use this if you trust your dj's not to screw things up on the remote pc. The other way is to have an event in your automation software to stop the playlist and start playing their stream and at the end of their show , it drops their stream and starts the automation again. I do this with my automation software and only have a problem if the dj's streams drops, but I have a silence detector which starts another playlist if that happens.

We use Shoutradioautomation(.com) which alows us to schedule the auto dj to start and stop automaticaly when we have a live show booked and also schedule pre recorded shows.

It also has the ability to schedule a relay from another stream.

It beats paying for radio automation software to run on your pc and makes it easier for your DJs to get on air without having to take care of auto dj.

Alternatively there is makeavoice.com which is cheap , they give u a dj login and an admin login (so djs can stop the auto dj without having access to admin settings etc.. )

Also if you are looking for a smooth transition between auto dj and live stream you would be better off with an IceCast server.

I use ZaraRadio for automation and the silence detector is called Pira cz. You can find them both on my web site under Links / Radio Software. I have the silence detector to start a winamp playlist and send me an email if I have more than 30 seconds of silence.

Anyone know how to do what billh is referring to with AUTODJ and multiple logins?

AJRUSS... gotta step back a bit so i understand... so it sounds like you are saying to get another streaming server with 5 slots that would be used for djs... and that server would be streaming to the broadcast/main streaming server with X slots for public to listen to

My question is... if someone is streaming from the DJ server... how does the next dj smoothly make his stream the primary one?

Then... if no one is streaming... how do i let AUTODJ kick in or my remote desktop that streams from a playlist?

Best way is to get a dj server a 128 5 slot stream. The dj will stream to that you will relay that feed that way when a dj comes on theres no kicking the server

Sounds like a complicated way of doing a simple job to me. I could be wrong, please explain to us in more detail what you mean. (I not being mean):)

I'm with johnny, this isn't a complicated problem.

1. Multiple DJ Logins

Most shoutcast hosts will only give you 2 logins , An Admin password and a dj password. A station called 1radio has multiple logins and use wavestreaming so you might want to enquire with wavestreaming if that is something they offer.

2. switching from auto dj to live dj seamlessly

As i mentioned before icecast is the best for this because it uses mount points and will automaticaly switch from auto dj to live when a dj connects without interrupting the stream.

With shoutcast you should make sure your djs stream at the same bitrate as the auto dj and that they connect within 30 seconds of the auto dj being turned off.

I would highly recommend using an auto dj server than using a PC , otherwise you will need to pay for 2 shoutcast streams and use a program such as sam broadcaster to relay the second stream which your dj has connected to.

I have to say that radioDJ ran with edcast is how i do mine. it uses sql so you can have a now playing on your website.

Have posted some scripts on here for that!

Been playing round with Zara radio while I think its a good little program its not for me jonny c swears by Zara tho so if you dont need the database look at Zara If you need sql for a website look at radioDJ.

The thing that works for me the best is that Zara has a great event scedueling in it. It can do a lot that way. Running diff spots during the day, plus trailers and station ids, starting prerecorded shows plus it hooks up to internet streams(cant do aac+, but I have worked a way around that by getting it to run a bat file that starts Winamp. I pretty much know Zara inside out, if you want to know about RadoDJ, Garys your man. The best thing is to have a play with both and see where you sit with them. They are both great programs in their own way. I have uploaded my event file for you to look at, it wont work for you , but you can get an idea what it can do. Click on the little clock in the events window and then load it.
