billh
Well folks it's time for me to say good by. I am not doing free voice overs any more. To be honest you just keep doing them and doing them and if your lucky someone will make a donation. I can't keep working for free and getting no place with the voice overs. I wounder does everyone work for free? Do you work and not get paid? Ya I know you do them them because you like to, well that no longer works, I do like doing them, but the free VO's are for the birds (If you know what I mean). People just keep sucking you dry for everything they can and don't give a rats a$$ if your not getting paid. Well all these people that can't even afford to make a small donation or even bother to post a Piad VO for a few dollars. Should close their stations if they are so broke. Sorry to say a thank you and a Rep does not help, how many people work for free? I've lost count of how many voice overs I've done and I can count on one hand how many donations I've received. So the rest of you blood sucking people can take your requset and stick it. Everyone wants them for free and people have become to damn greedy and cheap they won't part with a few dollars. The sad part is, you'll have others show up and replace me. So you can suck them dry until they had enough and yes more will replace them. I do recommend James make people posting a “Request for a free voice over” post a link to their station. You will start to find out what I've been finding. A lot of the request should be paid. They are just people to damn cheap to pay. "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . I only do dry reads, if you want FX's you'll have to add them, I might add them. GKIye
Sad to hear Bill ... but in fact its the truth ... concerning the people who are making requests for a free read ... but at their page they have an "advertise here" tab and page Concerning myself ... I like to do reads ... for reason that I like to offer some of my skills ... Some reads are better than others ... but I don't care Money makes the World going around ... but at the www its still difficult to achieve and/or urn any "real" money We all have the same problems in doing these things ... johny c
This is what happens when all you do is want, want, want, want. The guys doing the free voiceover's get pissed off and dont do them anymore. If you want repeated voice overs, it would be nice to throw a few $s their way. They don't ask for much. This goes also to the people who come here just for a free voiceover and we never see them again after they get it. So lets be fair about it. Look after the people who help you. If you dont have the $s, how about offering something else as a trade. Catfish Pete
In the short time I've been here, it does seem that people tend to join, grab a free v/o, then scootle off, never to be seen again. I'm not a professional v/o guy and would never claim to be. The point (isn't it?) of this section is to give and take equally. Having a "different" voice doing imaging, sweepers etc makes your station look more interesting. But frankly, if you want a pro job done, you should be prepared to pay. Catfish Pete
PS: Here's a suggestion. Why not make access to this forum conditional on being a member for say 30 days, and achieving 50 posts? That would see off the scrounging element...

lapianoman
I've been very picky lately about who I do free voice work for. If you're not respectful, or show some sort of entitlement mentality, I won't even consider working for you for free, even if it's only costing me a couple minutes of my time. For future reference, I will not do any free work unless you post a link to your website/radio station/YouTube channel/whatever. By doing so, you're helping me determine that you are, in fact, not-for-profit. If you claim you don't have a site because you're a DJ who is performing live, then I can assume you're being paid (even if it's for little money) and will not do a free drop/intro/etc. If your request is your first & only post, it will also be ignored. Also, if I do reply to your request, but never recieve +rep, rest assured it will be the only one you get. Giving +rep costs you nothing, but to me is equal to a Thank You card...it shows appreciation & respect.

Spinny
Sorry to see ya go Bill, your work is truly amazing. Unfortunately it is true that the majority of the stations cannot afford or don't want to pay for good work. I worked for several internet stations for free and now do a load of work I get paid for with 3 FM stations. But even in the world of am-fm, more and more are turning to volunteers who can dj and produce. It's getting very hard for people to make a living at this unless you get lucky enough to sign on with a major broadcasting group, or can get enough business to get a good percentage of the commercials you produce. It's a sign of the times and it sucks for alot of you that have been doing this a long time. Hell, I know several small fm station managers that pose as amateurs on another site to get what they want for free. It's all very sad, or very smart, depending on how you look at it and from what perspective. Part of the problem is how sites like this are run, but honestly, I wouldn't know how to change it. Every bit of your work has been excellent or better Bill. Thanks for sharing! Good luck in your future endeavours. Tom Tom
billh
I'll be stopping by, if I see someone I know has a request posted. I will be glad to help them in anyway I can. But as for free request by just anyone, I can't do them any more. It's just getting crazy with these DJ's and stations that should pay. They can afford it they just don't want to pay and it's not a question of paying top dollar or anything. Heck even a $5 donation would help in some way. But why should they pay? They can just go from site to site and keep getting free voice overs. Some of the free request get out of hand some times. Hell we even had one guy that insulted GK over a free request, thats how rude they can get. They request a free voice over, someone takes the time to do it and they insult them. They post a free request they get what I give them. If they start requesting it to be done this way or that way. Guess what? When they start paying then they can ask me to do it in a different tone, state it differently, etc.. Free voice overs are not meant for everyone. They are for hobby DJ's that can't afford to pay and I know they are out there and I know some of them. They are just the a person doing it as a hobby. But when you track down these people that post request and they work for an AM/FM Station or have sponsors, contest, they give money and prizes away etc. on their station/site you know they are making money. This is what has me so upset, I am sick of being used by these people and they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. Guess that kills any chance of me ever getting a paid request now and guess what? I don't care. I wouldn't work for someone that damn cheap anyway. They would be the worst person in the world to work for anyway, they would never be happy, I'm not paying or I'm not paying your whole fee bla bla... Just a couple of weeks ago. We had a DJ request a voice over. I did some searching and come to find out he worked for what is maybe the largest broadcaster in India. I think they had something like 45 radio stations and they claim to reach 200 Million people and the DJ's request free voice overs. What ever I'm going to stop, I could write a book if I keep going Hey thats an idea, New book title "How cheap can you be? " "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview .
