billh
That's a good question I don't remember. It was some time in the 60's. Here's a list that might of been the first, Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix , Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, James Gang, Arlo Guthrie, Janis Joplin and anyone else from that era take your pick. Wasn't my first but I remember buying Big Bambu by Cheech & Chong lol and laughing WOW!!! flash backs looking them up and looking at the album covers Now I want to dig out my old albums and 45's lol "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . I only do dry reads, if you want FX's you'll have to add them, I might add them. billh
J. Geils Band . That reminds me years ago I meet the original bass player. He left the band because he didn't like the way the band was going with it's music. "I'm Retired" Donations PayPal.Me/artistview . mikeyk
First record bought for me was Pilot - January First records I bought were Rain - Status Quo and Squeezebox - The Who. There was a discount voucher in one of the old music papers (Sounds or NME, I forget now) which gave you a hefty reduction at WHSmiths, so off I trotted. Still got all three records! :-)
johny c
One of the first I think (it was a long time ago) was a 45 by the Shadows, cant remember which one . "Mama'a got a squeezebox, and Daddy never sleeps at night!" I remember some bloke slagging me off for playing January by Pilot on a station called OMR! They later joined Alan Parsons I believe? Was one of their other singles "Smile" I am trying to remember? January=Great song! and from memory it was released in...............January! mikeyk
You got it Mr Burton! According to Wikipedia, Alan Parsons produced January. We've got a CD of their stuff here, hardly a greatest hits, but good enough. My stepmum was torn between buying me January or something by The Wombles, am I glad she opted for Pilot! Just A Smile was one of Pilot's other well known tracks, I like it anyway!

GKIye
Good Question ... I recall an artist James Allen (or Allan) ... but I forgot the songtitle The cover of this vinyl single was purple/blue with the artist on the leftside and the Tower Bridge into the background Maybe Arthur reminds something of these details ... (??) I bought that first record ... somewhere in 1967 / 1968 ... Yes guys .. I was at that time "just" 7 > 8 years old I guess you know now the reason why I'm addicted to music I don't have a clue if that track should excist as mp3 ... anyway .. the mp3 would be welcome Visit and listen @ BW ! You may be referring to a picture sleeve released on the continent. They were very rare in the UK back then. For some strange reason, I don't know why- I feel you may mean Richard Barnes? Take a look here http://www.45cat.com/artist/richard-barnes and you tube, of course. We MUST solve this mystery my dear Poirot!
