Swanmark
Hi! I want to experiment with streaming, from home. I've tried something called Icecast, but I dunno how it works. Can someone recomend something for me? A link to a tutorial for something? Anything? :D When I get it working I'll probably be moving it to a server, a linux server, will it be compatible? Thanks in advance, Swanmark.

djgary72
Keep in mind That Streaming from a Home Connection would need a decent Upload bandwidth http://speedtest.net Is where you can find out what your Upload speed is, it may not be able to handle a lot of connections.http://www.radiotoolbox.com/online_tools/bandwidth.php would be a Good Place to see what your bandwidth can cope with. Hope that helps somewhat. My Blog https://djgarybaldy.blogspot.com User of RadioDJ FREE radio playout software since 2010. shoutcaststreaming
With 21.8 Mb/s uplink, you can get about 150 listeners at 128k before you buffer. Brutish Sailor
The thing about hosting from home? You can still buffer from your host. You got one. You host through someone like SHOUTCASTSTREAMING, you will get multiple bandwidths, so your sure that your getting streams where they need to go without buffering. Let me expand on this. you ran speed test. Run pingtest. Check your jitter. Jitter is the killer secretly of all audio quality. Your ISP can throttle your bandwidth once they figure out your constantly streaming. Sometimes they will even start throttling your ISP, they treat alll streams equally usually, and will suspect you of torrenting. Then you have to mask and do other things, painful headaches.
