MADcHATTER
Sup guys, is there anyone who knows a lot about shoutcast and/or hosting internet radio who would host a shoutcast server on their server rig for me, and if I make profit from this station they would get x% money? Cheers! :help: The problem with Shoutcast servers is if you dont have the bandwidth to support many listeners or highend sound, you wont get many listeners. As each listener connects to the stream, they use up bandwidth. The average Highspeed line for a home user would be used up with 10 to 12 listeners at 56k streams. I would suggest you look into servers that have the bandwidth to support multiple listeners and stream frequencies. I use Shoutzone myself because one, theyre very inexpensive...bout $34 a month for a 64k line for 100 listeners which isnt bad! Since they utilize MP3Pro encoding it sounds almost as good as a regular 128k MP3 encoded line. The drawback is, they do not track usage or songs played for those of you tracking such statistics for RIAA or other Licensing agancies to pay royalties. You'll have to setup an outside tracking system for that. On the flip side, they are in France and do NOT enforce any RIAA or US government regulations. Since the CRB rate fiasco made it untenable to broadcast in the US. We moved our station (Thank you NAFTA) to France. Until such time as a working rate system is in place that is fair and equitable we'll stay there! We are a non-profit station and under the rules the CRB put in place would owe the RIAA roughly $86,000 US Dollars for royalties on past music for when we were on Live365. We grew from a listener base of 6,000 TLH to 126,209 TLH's last year and are still growing. It took us 3 years to get to where we were self-supporting thru donations and commissions thru online product sales and website advertising. But as the US economy falls deeper into the crapper, it's getting harder to maintain. These should be figured into your calculations as you look for a good provider. Ask questions...dont be affraid to ask questions! MADcHATTER MADcHATTER.net
