Lame_enc.dll problem

Using Altacast (New Fork of edcast) to stream audio with. The Bitrate is set at 128kbps as that's what my shoutcast server is set to stream at, every so often the lame encoder will start streaming up to anywhere between 160 - 196kbps causing the stream to catch up and buffer.

Also tried it on 64 (22050) and it's exactly the same.

Anyone have any suggestions? The developer of altacast has tried giving me a solution to this but alas it is still doing it.

It's confusing the hell out of me now.

Windows 7 64bit 2gb ram - 60mb Broadband connection.

Gary I downloaded Altacast and Ive had in running for over an hour with no problems.

Have you tried another lame_enc.dll. Tried sending you the one I was using but it wont upload and zip file size settings are too low in the advanced reply. Have you tried Edcast 3.36.2011.1111. Works for me no problems.

It's the lame_enc.dll that is at fault as far as i can see, tried several different fixes for it still no joy. Tried the edcast 3.36 and 3.37 a while back they both have problems with Garbled audio.

Waiting on the developer of altacast sending me a beta version to test.

This has only just started happening it was fine when we were using windows 7 on a 32bit box.

Couldn't get on with BUTT it wouldn't work for me. Awaiting an update from the developer of altacast.

Amazing that the only reply i've had is yours Johny thanks for that .... at least you tried helping.

i doubt i'll be asking a question again on here most users on here are so unhelpful which is also another reason i'm thinking of giving up on internet radio most people are only interested in themselves.

You got too few replies because (I think) Altacast developer is the only one who can help you with this issue. It's unlikely to be lame_enc.dll problem, for me it looks like the software problem.

A good idea would be using another encoder software which doesn't have this problem.

I'm afraid it is very much to do with the lame_enc.dll file it's known to run faster on 64bit machines. Have tried several other encoding programs all with the same results.

The Developer of Altacast is aware of the issue and is hiopefully going to make a version for 64bit boxes.

lame_enc.dll file it's known to run faster on 64bit machines.

That's really odd. Encoding speed relies on system timers, and those timers run at the same speed, 32 or 64 bits doesn't affect this in any way.

If lame_enc really has this problem, Altacast developer should get rid of that library...

Have tried several other encoding programs all with the same results.

Probably you're looking for free software... but maybe you would like to try RadioCaster  It 100% works on any Windows system (XP/2000 and newer).

I downloaded RadioCaster to give it a test drive, installed it and it wouldnt run, said my system was set back to beat the licensing on it. This is of course is not true and I have never installed it before. Im sorry, but software that does this straight out of the box is not worth the time downloading. It should work first time and you should not have to contact the developer.

Of course you don't supposed to contact developer to make it run. It may be incompatible with the other software installed on your system. No one else reported such a problem before... Anyway, it was advice for Gary and I think it'll work on his computer if he decides to give it a try :)

Totally agree there Johny ..... therefore i won't be giving RadioCaster a try - $39 dollars is a bit steep for an encoding program IMHO

I can live with the lame_enc palying up i guess ....

RadioDJ is having an encoding plugin written for the new version by one of the forum memmbers and that will be free ....

How much an encoding program should cost in your opinion, Gary? Pizza costs $25 -and it'll be eaten the same day you buy it. While software will be with you as much time as you need.

You're paying for quality. Software I offered just works, and you don't need to worry about anything :) To solve lame_enc problem just get rid of lame_enc - that's the answer to your original question. Spending time on trying to configure free software which doesn't work good may cost you more in result. Remember, time = money :P

Actually since the last windows update Altacast seems to be behaving itself along with the lame_enc file.... I'd rather have free software that i know works rather than pay for stuff that maybe will go wrong.

I've been around internet radio 10 years now and all the paid software i'd used just wasn't up to the job. I even trialed RadioBoss and wasn't that impressed by it.

So time doesn't always = Money .... there is more to life than that. I put my time in helping people for the love of it NOT what i can fleece people for.

If it worked, you wouldn't create a topic about problems, right?

It'd be very interesting to know why you didn't like RB... Please PM me about it when you have some free time.

I wasn't talking about that, helping people for free is totally OK.

The point is: when you try to save some funds by using free software it still can cost you more because of spending too much time configuring it and dealing with bugs. Lost time = lost money.
