internet radio station newbie

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum :) I'm keen on setting up a small online radio station but not sure where to start? I mainly want to broadcast music and a bit of talking. I also have some Dj decks that I want to utilise every now and again for a live mix. At the moment I have them hooked up to the line in of my mac.

Hope some of you can help..

Cheers, Will

Hi Will

Welcome to BW

A good place to start would be Automation software i recommend RadioDJ http://radiodj.ro Which is Free and is great for a beginner. If you need help setting that up help is always available here http://www.radiodj.ro/community/index.php

Along with Atacast to stream to a shoutcast/icecast server (also free) which you can find here http://djgarybaldy.co.uk/?p=490

You will need a Shoutcast or Icecast server to be able to stream your music to I find the Paid for ones are more stable than just going with one of the Free services. You can find a host by searching on here.

You will need a Licence to stream Legally you can get that here http://streamlicensing.com/

Anything else we can help you with just ask.

Hey will,

welcome to BW there are plenty of threads here about setting up your own station that you might find interesting, but if you need any help just shout.

check out free shoutcast servers http://listerntomyradio.com or http://myradiostream.com i find they are both pretty reliable and most suitable to get you going untill you decide what you want out of internet broadcasting.

having said that i use free servers all the time as i have customized players etc i broadcast 24/7 from a dedicated system to the server and i have a 99.8% up time and i cant complain about that.

I think if you check some of the pinned threads here, you'll find there are many ways to go about it. I'm with Live365 here in the states but a lot of people us Shoutcast and other means. I wanted a legal, hassle free experience so that company worked for me. Good luck with your venture and be sure to check out all the threads to get all the info you'll need to form your decision.

Wavestreaming is pretty good but depending on what bitrate your looking at along with number listeners be and autodj storage space. There might be better deals out there so be sure to look around
