Sam BC problems again

I awoke again this morning to the station being offline. When I try to open Sam, the box in middle of screen says checking database connections, then stops. I then get a send error report, then screen goes back to windows without opening SAM. The problems this software encounters is amazing. I have already had a computer crash within a month of purchasing software. After installing on new system run for two days then mysql database crashed or got corrupted, installed firebird and has run fine until this morning. I can uninstall and reinstall but have only 1 registration of my key code left. At this point I am totally lost on what to do. I really like the program but it is not worth this much hassle. Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

The Database structure in SAM BC isn't great it kept constantly crashing table data for no reason when i used it. Got that fed up with it in the end that's when i found RadioDJ the DB on that just works and doesn't throw up any errors like SAM does.

 

RadioDJ is free and the DB doesn't crash and cause issues like this. My Life has been a lot less stressful since i made the swittch. it's maybe an option if you want a program that will just work.

Does RadioDj allow you to use some of the scheduling and scripting similar to Sam? I really like the unlimited things you can do with Sam, but like you said its not worth the agravation. Thanks

RadioDJ has an Event function which allows you do most of the things you would need for automation i found PAL scripts can be another thing that seem to lock up SAMBC at times.

 

We've had users reporting that RDJ has been running without problems on their computers for near on 3/4 months at a time, I was lucky if i got 3/4 days out of SAM b4 it crashed/froze or didn't want to play nicely.

I completely uninstalled sam and firebird. I installed again and the same problem is happening. I guess there is something on my computer that Sam just doesnt like. Going to try RDJ over the weekend until Spacial support can help me out.

I found the Firebird database was just as unstable as the sql database structure in SAM.

 

RDJ needs mysql and at least .NET 3.5 to run properly also remember to try and run RDJ as administrator and it will work fine. Remember the forums if you get stuck.

DJSoft Stop with the personal attacks will you...... I'm fed up of being talked down to like this for Believing in a piece of software!

 

It's nothing to do with undercover marketing it's called getting the word out there about decent free software! In this day and age people don't have a lot of spare cash to spend on stuff!

 

It's merely advice on a forum if he doesn't want to switch to RDJ then that would be his choice.

Gary, it's not a personal attack. OP asked how to solve database problem with SAM, and you did what you always do: promote RDJ. No matter what the original question is, you always do your promotion. Note: no answer provided to the original question!

 

I just warned OP that your opinion is not objective. You do know RDJ has many issues, but you continue to religiously promote it like it's the best software in the world.

Thanks guys, I tried the RDJ software, to complicated getting the enccoders to show up in the right zones if RDJ recognized at all. Spent several hours trying to get up and running but never did.

 

I had this same problem in Nov. I was originally running the Mysql with SAM. So tried going back with mysql. I downloaded the software didnt work, uninstalled and downloaded again. Started working perfectly. I wish I coud figure out why these problems keep arising. I really like Sam BC. Thanks for your input

Generally speaking firebird is hardly, if at all, ever used amongst SAM users. MySQL is the standard and usually recommended if problems arise.

 

Database connection issues could be a number of things: MySQL daemon not running at the time, windows firewall issues (one of many reasons I highly recommend SAM running on a dedicated machine and any firewalls and security software disabled. If it is built JUST for SAM and Windows is kept up to date on its own, Antivirus/Firewall/etc is moot), other network connectivity issues (Even if MySQL is running on the same machine, it and SAM talk to each other locally over a network connection. Hence the statement about disabling firewalls).

 

Just some food for thought. And most of the time database issues with SAM are not issues with SAM itself but other issues indirectly connected. It'd be nice to have a self contained DB in SAM but given many features rely on external access, it is largely a no-go.
