RedChesterfield
Folks! I'm hoping for some shared knowledge and maybe a little insight into the realities of radio broadcasting! I'm absolutely enamoured with the idea of an FM startup - have been for years - and I want to start piecing things together. Or at least look to see if it's feasible. I've been looking to go back to school, and I'm weighing the benefits of either an electronics or broadcast engineering program. I know the technicalities of that kind of work are what I'm after, and with broadcasting I think there also exists the expressive, and human, side of work I want to pursue. Allow me to rattle off some questions, to perhaps better narrow this search for info. What are the equipment basics, to broadcast in FM? Generalized costs? What are the red-tape requirements to broadcast in Canada? What kind of content can you air? How well-defined do you have to make a station? How do you cover yourself for the content you air? Who do you pay, and how much? Where do I look for reliable equipment? What are trusted brands? Anything at all you want to pitch in with regards to the industry will be super appreciated. It's a lofty ambition right now, but I'm rising to it. Thanks in advance!

It's a lofty ambition right now, but I'm rising to it. Thanks in advance! I'm totally with you on this one! I run a radio station on a little island in the Pacific... No regular online stream, due to the high cost and slow speed of our internet here... But would love to learn more about what I can do with what I *do* have access to! C. saint
I have put together many guides that will help broadcasters. Best of all, they are free to download read or print. http://forums.broadcastingworld.net/showthread.php?10715-Internet-Broadcasting-Help-Guides I have created a facebook page for all my guides - both broadcasting and computers. (If you dont have facebook - dont worry - you can still access them without having an account.) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Colossus/127135787300504 Relaxing Entertainment For The World - - www.ScenicRadio.com
tomonair
"What are the red-tape requirements to broadcast in Canada?" Probably the only question I can be of assistance to.... There's a bunch of requirements that can be found on the main regulator here in Canada... the CRTC: http://crtc.gc.ca/eng/home-accueil.htm Also I know the big rule that all of Canada has to follow is that stations must play 35% of material that is considered "Canadian Content".
