Kindest Regards, Jerry wow, their great prices. I thought it would be all $1000 software, (but thats me thinking apple stuff is expensive) which i think is.. why cant we just buy the mac software by itself and so we dont have to buy it as a computer. bigmouthstudio
What kind of software do you run? Is it very expensive? James, I use Peak LE 6 from Bias Inc. It runs $129.00 US. It's kinda like Cool Edit was when it 1st came out. No multitrack, however you can layer audio which is how I do all my production work. I have been thinking about moving to a multitrack DAW and from what I hear Logic Express from Apple $199.00 US is the software to have, But until then I'll stick with Peak LE 6. Apple is the last company to, as Steve Jobs puts it, "Make the entire Widget". Not all software for the Mac cost $1000.00. I have found that in most cases the "lite" version of software will do what I needed it to do. Take for example Peak 6 from Bias Inc., has 3 different levels for this mastering software; XT $1199, Pro $599, LE $129. I use LE that has everything that I need to do production, Oh sure the more expensive version has features that I could use but don't need. Apple has Logic Studio for $499.00 and the lite version is $199.00. Not all macintosh software is $1000.00. Kindest Regards, Jerry

Kindest Regards, Jerry And at the risk of being lured into a anti-Mac flaming....Jerry is correct. Between GarageBand which comes FREE with the Mac OS and things like Logic Pro at only $499 as Jerry mentioned -- but he didn't mention that it comes with Soundtrack Pro and that's also WITH the available Jam Packs included -- there is nothing that cannot be done on a Mac -- audio or video (Final Cut) for very reasonable costs. And if you do some trolling around Band sites, you'll see that they use Mac for anything serious (just look at the Apogee gear -- like the Duet Firewire audio interfaces). And if you're talking podcasting -- in addition to having the same Logic Pro or GarageBand...you should see what Übercaster has for features (Mac only program -- think I paid $49 for it!). I've never understood the claims that get made about the "serious" power of PC's -- today on my Mac Pro with two 3.0 Ghz Quad-Cores (that's 8 cores), I did some work using Logic Pro and allocated 16 GB of memory to the task. And the latest Macworld tests show that you can run Vista on a Mac and with fewer problems than on a PC.
bigmouthstudio
-- like the Duet Firewire audio interfaces) --DrDan1... All I can say about the Duet from Apogee is SWEET! and thank god I can use it with my mac... Who Knew that it would be mac only? I can't wait to get one.... NVnone
I've noticed every time this topic comes up, almost everyone is set on only one. I have used both, and from my experiences, I choose PC. I definitely believe MAC has the advantages in the graphics editing department, because I know a few professionals that use them. I think it really boils down to which one you learned on, because you're always going to be partial to the one you know the most about.
THFS
Very tru NVone, I actually own two Mac's.... However, now they are sitting in my closet! One is an apple powebook G4 and the other is an Imac G4 Both suck, and are now in my closet

Ruby Tuesday
Nice thread dig. Macs have a lot more compatibility than they used to, in fact, I'd say a Mac has far less compatibility errors than a Windows-based PC. I have spent too many hours of my life trying to rectify problems with Windows such as issues with drivers and registries. Macs are a lot more user-friendly and streamlined, they have far less virii related problems (if any) and, Exozito, I have no problem finding software for Mac OS. Mac OS is far more advanced, reliable and - let's face it - gorgeous than Windows. Also, I don't know what you're all going on about re audio software and hardware. I have never worked in a recording studio that doesn't run on Macs. I have never worked in a station where there is not at least a couple of Macs. In my previous role, one of my projects was the upgrade the entire station's equipment. As part of this I upgraded most of the computers to Macs. Pro Tools, the industry standard DAW, is primarily designed for Mac OS. This is the same for all other Digidesign products including consoles and interfaces. Roobert
Hi all, as a Mac user since 1987 I am especially glad about his feature of Macs: There are NO viruses, trojans or any other maleware, regardless of attachment, website or any other threat. I once had the "MDEF A" virus on a Mac, but this was in 1989 and it didn't destroy anything. Since then: Nothing. And ...: For editing audiofiles I use Amadeus Pro (40,- $), for Shoutcast broadcasting I use iTunes (free) and Nicecast (40 $). All work perfectly. For mixing and playlist scheduling there is Megaseg, which I do not use (249,- $). There are some applications which I have to use under Windows and to do this, I use Parallels Desktop (79,99 $). I have Version 3 and it serves my needs well. The latest Version is 4.0 and it seems to be even better. Check the features, it integrates nicly into the Mac-surrounding. Not ideal for graphic intense games, though. If you have a sense of humor (either way ;-) have a look at Apples "Get a Mac"-Spots, some of them are hillarious! The first one ever in 2006 addresses the virus-issue ... have fun! Best regards from the Viennese Forrests, Robert
