axisdj
Hello Everyone, I need help finding a bug that djGaryBaldy has posted on his blog. I have tested this on all machines I can find and Have not heard a confirmation from any other customers, over 100 downloads per week, that this occurs. Of course I also have not recieved any communcation from djGarybaldy. Here is the link to djGarybaldys claim about the bug. He claims the software will not even start and comes up with a message right after install. The post is titled "New Nextkast …… Again No Thanks!", here is the link:http://djgarybaldy.co.uk/?s=nextkast If everyone that has time could just try to install nextkast and see if you get the message on startup that would be great. You can download nextkast from www.nextkast.com Any help finding this bug would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
djsoft
From the screenshot it looks like that it was started in emulation (Wine?), not under native Windows system. You can try Ubuntu+Wine, it won't take much time. Another option to look at: try deleting various files from your program's dir - maybe a missing file leads to this error. Hope this helps → RadioBOSS Radio Automation Software: http://www.djsoft.net → RADIOBOSS.FM Icecast/Shoutcast stream hosting.
axisdj
Thanks DjSoft, Yes I noticed the same thing.. the screen looked different, so I guess he tried it in wine without posting that fact on his blog. All other screen shots on the blog look like native windows... oh well. that answers that, we have not tested Nextkast under 'wine' maybe in the future, but it looks like the error above is a result of running on wine and not native windows. Too bad that was not mentioned in the blog, seems a bit un-ethical. WP
djsoft
All other screen shots on the blog look like native windows... Because not all of those screenshots were taken by him, he just collected as much error messages as he could. For instance, he used my screenshot which I've posted here: http://forums.broadcastingworld.net/showthread.php?11215-new-Internet-Radio-Automation-Software-FREE-for-NOW!&p=79689&viewfull=1#post79689 → RadioBOSS Radio Automation Software: http://www.djsoft.net → RADIOBOSS.FM Icecast/Shoutcast stream hosting. VERY UN-ETHICAL. I would hope people in this forum understands what is going on here. We (software developers) are open to comments, bug reports, feature request, etc.. for someone like this (djgarybaldy) to intentionally gather error screens from obscure places/ emulated OS's and then post it on his blog like he tested it is VERY sad. I worked very hard to make my software, and for this person Gary to post FALSE information all over the web is very frustrating. Based on the facts here I would caution any person to take advice from DJGaryBaldy about any automation software, if he intentionally post false/negative information to bias people towards the product he likes, it greatly questions the accuracy of all his other posts/reviews. jamesdean
I wouldn't worry too much, people try things and decide from there. I tried Sam (a legal paid for version) didn't like it at all. Tried RadioDJ, couldn't get it to work. Tried an evaluation version of RadioBoss a few years ago, found it good but didn't want to pay for full version. I use Direttore and Zara radio for my needs as and when. These to me are great and free. I don't slag off the ones I don't like and even if i did, who would care? Same goes for anyone else unless they are a big famous name who cares? Gary is someone i had never heard of before this site so if he wants to post stuff on his blog then it's his right, no-one has to read it or take notice of it. I didn't read it until today when I saw this thread. I don't know Gary so won't defend him or slag him off. All I am saying is an individuals opinion is just that. Keep on developing and improving your software, work on the positives and constructive criticisms, I saw Gary wrote on there today if you don't like it don't read it, fair comment really, just avoid his blog and problem solved. Oh I have not tried nextcast yet so cannot comment on it, all looks good though.

Yes I do think he is entitled to his opinion... but I am just starting out, and for him to post such an innacurate blog posting hurts me. The name of my software is very unique so when people search for it, it is one of the first post that come up. If you were searching for a review on nextkast and came up with that.. you would probably not even try it. That is NOT RIGHT, when his blog is based on innacurate information just to push his agenda. I have tried to contact him and reason with him, he does not even let me respond to his points. I had no choice but to bring the matter out in the open here. To sum it up, what he is doing is wrong, we are all entiled to our opinion, but hurting someone else with inaccurate information is WRONG! jamesdean
Well like I said if I seached and found that first i would not take a lot of notice as it is one persons opinion, a person i do not know so to me it makes no difference. I am sorry it affects you like it does, I was just trying to make you see that it does not matter but I see your point of view. All the best. djsoft
axisdjWhen people search Google for "NextKast" - it means they are already familiar with your software, they already tried it and have their own opinion. Those so called "reviews" won't do any harm at all. Out of curiosity, I've tried NextKast under Wine: it started and worked fine. It's a good news... but it also means that error message happens for some other reason. → RadioBOSS Radio Automation Software: http://www.djsoft.net → RADIOBOSS.FM Icecast/Shoutcast stream hosting. But anyway if anybody running wine/linux gets this error please let me know. Thanks
Brutish Sailor
I will give it a trial run. SAM is awesome, but without Dave Saint John and Ed zalinski, Spacial Audio has become stale to me like moldy bread. Their last releases after SAM 2.0? Nothing impressive, and anything "innovative" was more glitchy than a beta of 14 Year old developers. I support independent developers. I give it a shot tonight. Brutish Sailor
I just installed it. Looks pretty sweet for live broadcast. Its GREAT FOR someone sourcing strait from soundcard and using a mic from a different source (I was looking for something like this for a while for my USB mic) HOWEVER, take a look at how I have my mixer set up (videos 4 and 6): http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL389982084AC662BF So if I used this program and had mic selected all the time, I lose the ability to control the audio through my mixer, because it would be feeding the music strait from source to my stream, and at the same time the audio goes through the mixer. If their was a button to secure the audio from source to the stream, so it all gets routed through the pipeline of Audio----->mixer with mic----->encoder : that would be sweet. Brutish Sailor
OH and the ability to select which source to play the "preview music" that way I could route that source to an aux channel through my mixer, and to preview it, use my aux send. That way I dont have to do a headphone shuffle to check out the next song coming. KNSJ.org / 89.1 FM San Diego
axisdj
Thanks for checking it out... So it seems like you want to source your music from your source, not within nextkast. Not sure I understand.Right now you can preview a track on the sames sound card as the stream preview without effecting what gets broadcasted. maybe one day we can chat about your ideas, so I can clearly understand what you would like to do. my skype ID is : axisdmx Thanks
