What I have been doing is creating my own by playing around with some virtual synthesizers to create some wild sounds. Then for voiceovers I found some synthesized voices on the Internet that sounded natural and not robotic. Add some reverb and delay effects and they didn't sound too bad. I also got some members of the church congregation to come in and record some ID's...helps them feel like they're a part of the station...

Let me add that as a Christian station we aren't looking for the wow factor so the synthesized voices fit for what we do. The voiceover folks here on the forum and for hire can add much more feeling and emotion where the synthesized voices sound more stoic and plain. I would like for the voiceover people to do a couple for me someday.

Its funny you mention this, I am about to buy my first set of FX (Phillippe talked me into it)

For ones that DJ's use, is their a specific set or type recommended, Im looking mainly (I presume?) for ones that are VERY dirty and hide bad openings and closings on audio.

bigfishworldwide has several packages available. although their prices are a bit on the high end, they are worth every penny of it. i have purchased almost all of their stuff. For some less expensive ones, check out soundlizard.com. they are almost always running deals that i have taken advantage of. i have also purchased every item from air media. great stuff their as well. so, in short, if you have the budget for it, go with bigfishworldwide.com. if youre a bit strapped for cash, go with soundlizard.com. if youre stuck in the middle of those 2, go with air media. just my 2 cents. hope that helps.

I see you like Dubstep! Check out my station: Beattransit.com

Heck yeah bro.

Also, since your in to VO production, check these out https://www.youtube.com/user/radioimaging

These were done by Jr. boadcast legend and multiple internet radio award winner Curtis Maychek , who started broadcasting at a young age, and kicked ALL our asses in the process LOL

i have seen radioimaging's channel before. i learned a lot from him. the one thing i dont like, which is what i dont like about most producers who put together tutorials, is they use expensive programs to do it. the one i linked does it with mostly free programs, and only one or 2 that are super inexpensive. i would love to be able to afford ableton, soundforge, and the like, but unfortunately, i cannot. it would just be nice to see more people posting tutorials on production and DJing with free or cheap software. and yes, i love dubstep! i was stoked to find a package full of dubstep workparts to add to my library!

indeed, that is true, but what about the guy whos never done production before? Im not trying to put anyone down or anything, i just think its cool that theres someone out there that shows noobies how to do stuff without spending the bucks. i mean, there are hundreds of tutorials on youtube, both with expensive, and inexpensive programs. we just picked our favorites, thats all!
