wutzthedeal
Great to meet you guys. I'm a middle-aged dude that just started two shows; Truth on Tap and Caps on Tap. I've got just a few questions; I've done about 60 episodes, most using Sam Broadcaster 4.9.1 (seemed to work better than the other versions for me). 1. I would like to be able to taper/fade the end of some of my sound effects. I've got one that is about 10 seconds long that is a station ID, and oddly, I produced it in Audacity WITH a natural fade, but SAM took out the fade and ends it abruptly. Crossfading and gap killer settings don't seem to be helping. 2. Because I'm using a wireless connection to DSL (I know, I'm supposed to be hardwired into the router AND Dsl is too slow anyway) I need to be very careful about what data rate/format I select. Whenever I use 128kbps (I use Spreaker), it works well but I get some crackling/popping/gaps. I do much better when I go over to AAC and set it at 80kpbs. And considering it's a talk show with only a few songs here and there, that seems to be ok; is there a better setting? 3. I've had terrible luck with DSP plugins OR ACG. StereoTool and associated ones tend to give me skipping/gaps, so I end up turning everything off; the ACG stuff built into SAM, the DSP plugins, even Equalizers. While that helps keep audio smooth, my station does not sounds professional and I'd like to change that. Thank you in advance for help! PubRocK
Hi, 1. Untick the fade out option under the fade settings on SAM. 2. Could very well be your PC's performance. I had the same crackling/popping sounds using my laptop to run my station. When I moved to Desktop, it disappeared instantly. 3. IMPORTANT, turn off all ACG and DSP plugins supplied by SAM. They are crap and all over this forum you will receive this advise. Breakaway Broadcaster is a fantastic plugin to use. Good Luck http://i40.tinypic.com/2jb0ins.jpg http://www.pubrock.co.za
wutzthedeal
Thank you PubRock! EDIT: Dayum, I completely give up on Breakaway. Can't get dsp plugins to show up, no idea if it's actually "working" if running outside of SAM. I'm going back to 2-band AGC. Sigh. Thanks for your input. PubRocK
It's a pain in the butt to set up.. it took me a while but I eventually got it right. I found these notes that helped me. Once it's running, you'll here a clear difference in sound quality once you play and tweak the settings. (1. Set the input to Line one and output to line 2 and both on KS and 2 Channel and 44.1 Khz sample rate. In the AGC setting (mixer) of SAM you have to set the input to Breakaway Pipeline Line 1 and Output to Breakaway Pipeline Line 2.) Also, see if this helps. http://www.radiowavesforum.com/rw/showthread.php?t=18384 http://i40.tinypic.com/2jb0ins.jpg http://www.pubrock.co.za
Brutish Sailor
Im watching tghis with a lot of interest. I never considered SAM great for a syndicated show until now..... It still seems a lot easier to do using audacity or ZaraStudio though (recording the source.) KNSJ.org / 89.1 FM San Diego
wutzthedeal
I'm loving Sam, but for whatever reason, I get a lot of crackling/popping on any of these DSPs. I can just barely get away with 2 band AGC. I've messed with every setting you can mess with, from delays to freeing up resources on my system, and it just doesn't like it when I put a DSP in or even go to 5 band AGC. Sam is still great for broadcasting; I use Spreaker but now my show is on iHeartRadio so I'm getting rather anal about having "broken" shows--can't afford any interruptions, so a browser-based deck is out. I think Sam has locked up on me once, maybe. I use it with VAC to take calls through Google Voice; I like that all the windows can be crammed together so you can run your stuff easily; nice fades from song to song, responsive controls, quick change on sound effect libraries, etc. I don't use half of what it has available. Brutish Sailor
I tell you what. I have been procrastinating long enough. I WILL finish a tutorial for you this week using zara. Including the audio stacks /w routing, taking calls, the whole 9. KNSJ.org / 89.1 FM San Diego
wutzthedeal
You audio people blow my mind, man. I've never been a real music guy. I've got mad experience in electronics and computers (even lead the teaching department in electronics at a career school here) but audio is such a mystery to me... the thousands of controls that can be mashed up to get effects just is stunning. All I want is to broadcast my little talk show with a song here or there while sounding like a pro; I'd like it to add that studio "depth" you know, with the bass that doesn't put you underwater, with that wide sound you get from the radio. And here's another big problem; the big waves, music, the small, talk. I must fix.
wutzthedeal
Still waiting for this!! I tell you what. I have been procrastinating long enough. I WILL finish a tutorial for you this week using zara. Including the audio stacks /w routing, taking calls, the whole 9. UPDATE: I'm definitely settled into using RadioBOSS. That is just some badazz software. Taking calls now with no repeaters from Skype and Google plus. Wooooot!!!
