Wanting to Start affordable host, what do you think?

I am thinking about offering server space for sale, what do you guys think of $3.99/ month with 3GB storage 100 listeners and 128 bandwidth? Does that sound reasonable, if anyone is interested let me know. I could do custom plans also.

ya, i was thinking of using shoutca.st, but i would like to lock in enough people to nearly fill a plan.

Unfortunately, in the real world, that pricing is ridiculous. It is impossible to afford, therefore building on a business model of gross overselling will not work out in the end. I've seen tons of hosts come and go.

Allot of host that sell extremely cheap are what is known in this industry as summer host ... that said if you got a client paying that and they hit the mark you need to make sure you can provide the actual data to the client ... we started out very cheap and as our client base has grown so have our server fee's and bandwidth make sure that what ever you charge not only Gaines profit but if you hit the max you can deliver .. its not a get rich quick scheme takes allot of time and dedication.

What's so hard about getting your own .com .net name?

I would for sure get a dot com domain, just havent done that yet because i am not live.

So MarcAlle you are saying that is too expensive? Compared to what? Also shoutstream that is great advice, that is the plan if this works out start small and build better infrastructure & support as the amount of clients demand.

No, I'm saying there is no way you can afford to sell a good, QUALITY service at that price. It's just not possible.

Since you can only get about 700 listeners at 128k on a 100 mbit server, are you saying you are leasing a dedicated server for $28 US per month ? If so, what Data Center ?

Review the pricing, ensure that you can cover all costs with the money you'll earn, don't set them too low, don't set them too high.

A question: is hostingmembercenter.com working for several companies or just related to this ShoutHost.com?

Billing and tickets were going through them, and my account is now also deleted.

 

So, is at least hostingmembercenter.com legit or part of the scheme?

 

Talking about "trust the .com" sites... as you can see, a ".COM" doesn't help a lot... it costs 10 dollars to register a .com web site.

 

Anyway, the guys I talked about above, started with deleting the opened tickets and when I wanted to talk with them, to understand what is going on, they answered just the first time, and then they hung up and disconnected the phone line (probably a VoIP line activated from some strange Country?) .

 

They started very well, with great and prompt customer service, but then they switched to the ugliest, as said deleting tickets and disconnecting the line.

 

I am looking around for a new hosting service that also keeps in mind budget... let us see.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I've not heard of the company before, but we just got several signups customers of this company. Are they gone?

No, they are still around. Ten cents per listener for a 128k stream. Good deal ? Maybe, maybe not.

 

Their data center is in Dallas, Texas but they don't say which one. Could be in their basement ?

Files keep slowly slowly disappearing - obviously I don't try to call them anymore, as when they see my phone number in their basement, they laugh and disconnect the line. I am just wondering why they did not unplug me yet!

I cannot log in to the ticketing system anymore, as WHMOS (https://billing.hostingmembercenter.com/viewticket.php?) now says that my user name and password do not exist!

 

It is interesting how SCAM kept evolving together with technology: from the bogus email and 1 page fake site to basement data centers with VoIP fake phone numbers. By the way, from what I heard over the phone, I think, they aren't based in USA... probably more in the direction toward East.

 

I see posts/adv of a company called Shoutca.st in this forum/website and I saw also a review (supposely made by broadcastingworld.com) mentioning them. Is there any negative feedback of Shoutca.st, so far? I see that nobody posted something negative in their threads, which is already a good thing.

Shoutca.st is a newer host, so there are not many reviews on it yet. Broadcasting World doesnt appear to have done a review yet, by clicking on their review page, you can see that. The only issue I have with their reviews is they seem fake. I say this because almost every person who reviewed their page registered an account, posted the review, and has NEVER been back. I've been a member on this forum for 6 years, there are over 50 of my clients here, and we have 1 review posted. ShoutcastStreaming.us has been here in a similar timeframe, and again, only 1 review. I know our two companies are not the largest, but we have been around a while so my advice to you would be to do some more research before just picking the cheapest host.

We are definitely a newer host, been around for tad over 7 months now. Though our reviews are not fake, we do ask our clients to leave their honest opinion here and most do. We've been contacted by James for an editor review, but have sent him the information to do it and haven't heard anything back for a good while. I presume he's busy.

The .tk domain isn't good for doing business. The plans are OK if you do oversell your services. I'd say you should try it and see if customers buy your services or not.

Ahh...I understand now. Those are not done by BroadcastingWorld, but rather by the users. There is a variety of factors such as # of times viewed, etc.

Although starting an affordable host is nice. There can never be enough. They're all over. However, a stable affordable host is hard to come by.

ShoutHost has been around for some time. I've used them. Their domain HostingMemberCenter is NOT new either. That's what they started out on. I've never had a bad experience with their service when I used them in 2011/2012.

If you are able to build a strong following, while providing adequate care and support, I'd say you are a keeper. But, if you can't answer a ticket within 10 minutes, you're not worth it, and need some help. Try again!

 

Of course there are those clients that still expect top notch support from those "free" or $1.00 a month hosts. OK!

Here we are far from the 10 minutes reply expectation... here we talk of deleting tickets and answering the phone just the first time, and once they have understood that I was the one "of the deleted tickets" , they hang up, they kept hanging up and then: "the number you are calling is not active".

Here we talk of the last and worst "garage server" way to face issues!

 

They never answered to my tickets (they even cannot as they deleted my user name from their ticketing system) and just decided that deleting/hanging up was the way to go, without I even challenged or offended them in any way while talking and writing.

Update: wooooow now the ShoutHost / ServerHostingCenter guys must be upset... but I am more!

Centova is opening, stream page too, but administrator and stream are down.

 

Of course I was already not counting on ServerHostingCenter / ShoutHost services, seeing the way they make "business". ...and I am unable to open a tickets for the reason mentioned in my previous post (well, let me tell you that I wouldn't even try to open one, anyway!)

 

As I was saying, professionalism is the keyword! Is this business or... bu%#@t?

There are lots of stream hosts out there. If one doesn't work for you, just move on to another host.

Oh, I am walking ahead now and have already moved-on since the day in which they canceled the first ticket! They can enjoy their games within their own team. Now they are talking about a DDOS attack to my stream-IP... yeah...
