dotme
@dotme - John .. thank you for all your help the past 9 years. You were always the cool level headed person who bent over backwards to help everyone (including me) out. Thanks for the kind words! I've met so many nice people in the webcasting community over the years and I feel very lucky. Oh.. and before anyone speculates, I am not the "interested party" lol
EZRyder
@EZRyder .. well yeah, but who in their right mind wants to spend $160 per month for their premium service. I was on a tight budget and that amount of money was outrageous. Valid point, though my utility bills come out to more than $160/month. That doesn't seem like much money to pay for the expense of having a 100% legal, licensed internet radio station. You know, I never developed it into a big business, but when viewing $160 as a business expense... i dunno, that just seems like a very small amount of money. To give some perspective, it costs over $700/month just in rent for my music studio. And it's basically a glorified box. If you're on a tight budget, I definitely understand.. but I felt the fees were on-par with what I was using. Sure beats the $2,000 it takes to get with SoundExchange, plus all the logging and reporting I'd have to manually do, plus the % of income I'd have to give to BMI, ASCAP and SESAC... ooof. that stuff is too complicated for me... i've tried to understand it. How was LoudCity or StreamLicensing with the reporting? I've never had a chance to use them so I can't compare..
Marvin
Credibility is important and I understand concerns expressed in previous posts. One way you can tell if we are paying the fees on behalf of our broadcasters is to look at the list SoundExchange publishes. See: http://www.soundexchange.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Q3-Licensee-Count-10-15-13.pdf If by reporting, you mean does StreamLicensing file reports on time? The answer is yes. If by reporting you mean do we get the data automatically from your stream server? The answer is yes. Can you log in and see your ATH for the last 24 hours, seven days, or 30 days, yes. I think what is being asked is do we take the hassle away from reporting. The answer is a big YES! If by reporting you mean do we make the music reports we file to the PRO's available to you? The answer is no because they are aggregated reports of all stations, and to share an aggregated report a) would violate privacy of all other stations involved and b) is such a large report that many machines have trouble opening the file and manipulating the data. The financial reports are based on agreements with the PRO's that can't be legally shared, even if we otherwise wanted to. And just a word re. LoudCity. My hat is off to LoudCity's work over the years. I was a LoudCity broadcaster when SWCast went down and LoudCity filled up to capacity. I started StreamLicensing at that time to meet the need of broadcasters who had nowhere to go. While I am able and glad to provide a new licensing home for LoudCity clients needing our service, I am not happy to see LoudCity disappear. The service they provide has been of great value to small to mid-size broadcasters. John has been and is a great help in supporting the transitions over to StreamLicensing. I appreciated his help many years ago when I was a LoudCity broadcaster and I especially appreciate his help now as our team provides the support sometimes needed when a LoudCity broadcaster becomes a new StreamLicensing Affiliate. Is their a cap on the number stations or ATH hours that StreamLicensing can handle? If so, are you near approaching that limit with the influx of LoudCity refugees? Woudl it be wise for those "on-the-fence" to sign up now rather than later? http://5280jazz.com/nowplaying_image/5280jazz.png Rob Oyler 5280 Jazz
Marvin
I purchased enough ATH from SoundExchange to handle all of Loudcity and more. Agreements with the other PRO's do not have caps. The real issue is if too many wait til the last minute and require Affiliate support to make the transition, support will be the bottleneck. I'm guesstimating about a 1/3 of those who many need StreamLicensing coverage have already made the transition. That leaves a significant number who haven't yet made the plunge. Even with several of us working support, the response time could extend to a couple of days or more if we get a large surge at the end.
Brutish Sailor
I was somewhat a little broken hearted to see it go. Actually really broken up. I had a lot of loyalty ( and still do) to Brandon and John. Not just because of the fact that they have lead the charge in Washington against the equality for hobby broadcasters, but because of the fact they have always and first had the philosiphy," Lead the royalty battles to us, you guys just keep streaming nd do what your paying to do, enjoying a hobby." I was actually very pleased with post-loudcaster loudcity, even though I still liked loudcasters platform, and thought Brandon had outdid himself. BUT, on that same token, I would never judge anyone that wants to get out of the streaming media industry, its hit and miss. Everyone knows where radio stands currently at the end of the day, and you really got to share an experience to hold listener loyalty and ends meat. Thanks Loudcity and staff for everything done. No hard feelings here, and it has been a hell of an experience. KNSJ.org / 89.1 FM San Diego
