Running out of options, what's going on?

Recommended Posts

Wavestreaming has gone completely down hill in my experience... to the point where whenever we have an outage, I literally wait 24 hrs for a support ticket reply, and that's ONLY after yelling at them via Twitter in front of 135k followers.

Centovacast... well, I'm not even sure what to say, I use centovacast as an emergency back up... guess what doesn't work for me? Centovacast. DJ Logins won't be accepted no matter what I do.

What's left? I'm not a host, just a radio station, with most equipment, minus wavestreaming, in house.

Are you hosts experiencing similar issues? I'm on the verge of a breakdown over here.

No issues here...weird that your Centova DJs wont work. We have dozens of clients using them and are very happy with the performance. In fact, I use them on my personal station.

Are ou running 3.0.6? I just signed up with a host (to test) and they are having the same issue, I created a DJ and it won't let me login, try ver 1 with name:password and ver 2.

Very unhappy my backup plan is failing, while my main AutoDJ provider just takes money and ignores us (LOL)

No issues with Centovacast here either. And we have a ton of streams.

You are not having much luck with Stream Hosts.

I'm really not. We do everything in-house... except for AutoDJ.

I lost a "Boatload" of money when Wavestreaming accidentally queued up a "3rd Segment of a 4 segment show, first" .... (this was my ninth trouble ticket with them in the past two months and I've been with them a year now).

We used to run Centova in house full-time, however, some of you may remember the days of Steve taking vacations while his licensing servers would go down?

So for "AutoDJ" which seems to be the hardest part of the game and hand offs to live DJs, its been best dealt with leaving the responsibility elsewhere.

Our equipment never has issues in regards to Shoutcast, Icecast, Steamcast, Transcoding AAC+ OGG, and MP3 via our servers.

Centovacast still scares me for full time automation, hence I've been with Wavesteraming the past year.

It wasn't like that. He had some major personal issues at the time.

You know in this business anything can happen anytime. When we first started 10 years ago, we had a bunch of servers from FDC in Chicago. They lost a blade router on a Friday morning and most of their servers went down. However, they were so cheap, they refused to overnight (Saturday FedEx delivery) a replacement from Cisco and opted to wait for a Monday delivery. So, everyone was down for 4 days. Being very new in business we had 100 customers in our first few months and then promptly lost 80% of them that weekend. We quickly switched to a more reliable Data Center.

So, you really need to expect the unexpected.

I hear that... I have often disagreed with Centova's 5 minute cron job validating it's license. It's a waste of resource... If you pay monthly, it should validate, maybe once a week (if really need be) ...if you pay yearly, maybe validate monthly? Every five minutes is wasteful code... using CRON is wasteful code.

So wavestreaming has acknowledged the "bugs" thanks to our logs... and I realized we moved to them for Cloud Solo DJ two years ago... (and ranted a bit that if a two year old customer goes 23 months with out support tickets perhaps they should be concerned with the issue on the 24th month).

I also went ahead and installed Centovacast on a large VPS that we had sitting idle... it is working flawlessly, at the moment... which tells me the original server, with Centova on it must have an issue.

Thanks for letting me rant here guys, I created an account here, just to get some professional feedback, successfully from you guys.

  • 2 weeks later...

We were using WHMSonic on a VM that we were running cPanel on for a while, but we recently set up a separate Centova instance (with the help of someone who used to do installations for them) on a Debian VM, which is using very little resources, and we've been very happy with it.

We currently only have one Shoutcast v1 instance on there, but we average over 700 unique listeners and have close to 1000 listener slots filled during peak hours, and it's been working extremely well.
