Hey guys, Samuel here.. I'm just curious on the best way to start an Online Radio Station. I've just purchased over $50 worth of resources including a domain (MusicHowl.com) and if anyone is polite enough to help me setup, I'd be more then welcome to pay you.

What you need to do is sit down and plan out what you want to achieve. Station - stream - music etc.

I have literally written an entire library of reference material for broadcasters that cover a wide range of topics that can help you. Start with the link that shoutcaststreaming posted - then you can also look at more of my guides here. They are all free to read, download or print.

A couple of suggestions for you:

Make sure you get a quality web host - "unlimited" is not always the best. I myself have gone through several and have finally found one that is both competent, very good value and excellent customer service. http://www.certifiedhosting.com

I would go with a CMS solution for web creation ( content management system. ) vs. straight HTML. There are lots of good quality CMS platforms - I myself use get simple, which is phenomenal in my option. It gets the job done - dead simple to set up and lots of plugins - add ons and does not use mysql ( mysql is notorious for data breaches and hacking. )

When you select music - go for a niche - more and more people are turning to the web because they are tired of the cookie cutter approach that the big name FM stations use for music playlists. I can only take Brittney Spears so many times an hour ;) Think beyond the box !

Depending on where your located - you will need to consider royalty management. You have to pay to play those songs - unless you use public domain / creative commons music.

Stream hosting - I think you will find a good variety of stream hosts here - check out the section on stream host ratings.

Read Read Read Read Read and Read again. All this may seem complicated at first - but if you take the time to study a bit - it will all make sense. If you have a question about something you read - ask. No one here was born with the information already in their brain - especially me.

Before you start spending large amounts of money on anything - ask questions. Reputation - customer service - reliability - guarantee. If any LEGITIMATE business starts getting cross eyed over you asking questions before making a purchase - move on to some one else. A business should never be afraid to answer questions from potential customers. ( These questions should certainly be within reason - however. )

Hope this bit helps you get your feet wet and off to a running good start :)

Frank - I myself use Getsimple. It is dead simple easy - and takes less than 5 minutes to get up and running. If an Idiot like me can get it going in nothing flat - any one can. http://www.get-simple.info. A very vibrant community there - consistently updated with lots of add ons and themes to use. I know some people highly recommend word press - the mysql thing really bugs me - and as of late - the l33t Ha>

This is a site I created using get simple -> http://www.scenicradio.com/

Frank, I found an Interesting article about how "flat file" CMS is poised to really expand this year.

http://www.typeandgrids.com/blog/goodbye-wordpress-2014-will-be-the-year-of-flat-file-cmses

Flat file systems scale very easily according to traffic load. If you hit a MySQL CMS with a ton of traffic - it starts to bog down rapidly and eat up account resources rather fast.
