djgary72
It's 50 years ago today since the Pirate station Radio Caroline started broadcasting from the ship moored out at sea. It changed the face of radio in the UK and paved the way for commercial radio.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-26782083 I think it was the likes of the DJ's from stations like Caroline that got me into wanting to do Internet Radio. saint
* That * was radio - not the corporate controlled gibberish we have now. One of the pirate radios ( maybe caroline ) contemplated running a TV station - that would have been totally radical. There was basically a pirate station for every taste. I recently discovered an archive of on the air recordings for Radio 390 - broadcasting from one of the old Anti Aircraft forts - and have become rather fond of listening to them. djgary72
* That * was radio - not the corporate controlled gibberish we have now. I hear you!! Corporate gibberish has just ruined one of the UK's better radio stations. last week global practically ruined Gold (Ex capital Gold) They got rid of most of the DJ's and now it's autoimated at least 20 hours a day. I can still remember when Commercial radio was a pleasure to listen to now it's just bland and repetetive! I recently discovered an archive of on the air recordings for Radio 390 - broadcasting from one of the old Anti Aircraft forts - and have become rather fond of listening to them. Any chance you can give us the link to the archived stuuff? I enjoy listening to archived broadcasts like that, I used to know one of the Caroline disc jockeys (Tom Edwards) but we lost touch a while back.
