Internet Radio in Cars!

Recommended Posts

Not only is Internet Radio available on any SmartPhone capable of Internet Access, now Internet Radio streaming to your car isn't a pipe dream for years away. It's available right now, and using the new Ford SYNC, it's available this Fall using voice command. Known as "GeekCasting" the ability to access Internet Radio stations is the "Not-So-Distant-Future" today. The new line of Fords with SYNC will allow for easy access to Internet Streaming Radio through simple voice commands and will interface with most any SmartPhone or even BlueTooth.

Check out the video news - http://community.myride.com/kickapps/_I ... /3898.html - about this revolution. Now Internet Radio will be able to challenge Satellite, Cable Radio and AM/FM radio on its own terms. What will this mean for the future of Internet Radio? Well with the capability to "GeekCast" to commuters in their cars, the face of Internet Radio is about to change. And the future is looking good...

What does this mean for internet Radio? A whole new venue to get heard, a new way to get listeners and a new medium in which to grow. Could this mean oversight by the FCC in the near future in the US? That may very well be. We will keep an eye on these developments and bring them to you. In the meantime the ability to be able to enjoy Internet Radio from your car is no longer a pipe dream.

Internet radio is expanding. And now don't yell at me because I don't support the high fees, but with more reach internet radio is going to have to crack down on those not paying royalties otherwise the artists will have a say and try and stop internet radio from expanding.

Again, don't get me wrong, I do support internet radio enormously.

I agree with you...but until they come up with a fair and equitable royalty scale that evens the playing field between Internet Radio, Satellite, Terrestrial and Cable Radio...Internet Radio will continue to be driven towards "Pirate Radio" status. We paid our fair share of Royalties for years until the CRB decision came down. The idea of paying more than our income made it necessary to do like so many US companies did ala NAFTA and move our operations out of the US.

We did not make this situation untennable, the Labels, RIAA and CRB did. We should get the same consideration as the AM/FM stations since what we do is essentially the same...but we do it without commercials! Or at the least we should be considered like Public Radio and pay the same as AM/FM. But, of course, the greed of the labels and RIAA knows no bounds. Even though we make it possible to sell their clients music and we promote that music, they want us to pay for the priviledge!

In their so-called model of a willing buyer and seller, there is no room for us because we promote sales they cannot control, profits they cannot justify withholding from the artists and play the stuff people want to hear...not what the labels tell this is "Cool, Hip or Hot"! They want to control the market...we make that impossible. So they use the inequities of Copyright law to try and squeeze us out and make money on things they no longer even produce or sell themselves. Or worse, on music from artists they do not control!

So they pay millions to lawmakers to get their way. They pay off AM/FM radio stations to play the crap they want to sell. Do you really think there was a market for Paris Hiltons kack? ClearChannel got hit with millions in fines for accepting payola from the labels. The labels didnt even get a slap on the wrist! What does that say?

All in all...I dont care what they do. I am living for the day when the Labels and the RIAA are defunct. Somewhere a new business model will emerge that focuses on what everyone claims is the core of the whole issue...The Artists and their Music. When someone does that...the whole world will change!
