abkradio
Hi, So which do you prefer: Shoutcast or Icecast and why? I prefer shoutcast as their is a wider range of hosting providers that support it.
SatoshiAaron
I've never heard of IceCast... Will have a look.
djsoft
I prefer shoutcast as their is a wider range of hosting providers that support it. Lots of providers do offer Icecast and Shoutcast packages for the same price. As stream hosting provider I'd suggest using Icecast - it's more stable (Shoutcast server crashes more often than Icecast). → RadioBOSS Radio Automation Software: http://www.djsoft.net → RADIOBOSS.FM Icecast/Shoutcast stream hosting. SlamminTunes
Icecast makes it easier to transition between DJs Yet my preference is Shoutcast... just familiar with it and have been using it for years with no issues.

deephouselounge
Exactly how does it make it easier to transition? I have a feeling your ignorance on the subject is affecting your responses. SlamminTunes
Icecast supports multiple mount points so the listeners are transitioned to the new broadcaster and back automatically. Shoutcast allows only 1 dj or device at a time to be connected for the purposes of broadcasting and requires the first dj to stop his connection before a second dj can connect to broadcast. and again my preference is shoutcast. listener base is larger, more flash players support it and just a general larger following
deephouselounge
Sounds like you are still using V1 of the SHOUTcast DNAS. Give 2.2.1 a shot and you'll enjoy the benefits of multiple mount points and manual setting the Authhash for all your relays. I agree with SlamminTunes about Icecast being easier to transition between DJ's, he is spot on. And yes, I know all about SHOUTcast v2. deephouselounge
There seems to be some miscommunication here. I have not expressed any sort of attitude or bad manners. If you are referring to the term "ignorance" maybe the miscommunication is coming from your end if you don't truly understand its definition. ig·no·rance ˈignərəns/ noun noun: ignorance lack of knowledge or information. I simply stated his lack of knowledge is getting in the way of his response. This is a common occurrence. When someone lacks info about a subject manner they cant really give proper suggestions or hold a conversation about said subject manner if they don't understand it themselves. Cheers Bryon. My current host doesn't support shoutcast v2 yet and unfortunately neither does my copy of SAM4 broadcaster. Might be time to upgrade, sigh. deephouselounge
Be warned though. 2.2.1 does have its issues just like v1 has its issues too. I would put pressure on your hosting company to have all v1 along with v2 for you to use. Good luck! That's some good information.
