Anyone tried the RED5 RDV30 Dynamic micraphone

Recommended Posts

A while ago I was looking for vocal mics for a venue I help out at. We were looking at the Sennheiser e835 and the Sure SM58. Another mice that came up was the RED5 RDV30 which doing a lot of digging seemed comparable to the SM58 but did not have good back rejection so we rules it out. We ended up getting the e835 and are very happy with it for gigs.

So, we are using the e835 and they seem good. Thing is we now need our own mics, rather than sharing them wit the performance space. Was wondering if anyone had used them for radio and how much issue the back rejection is (or is likely to be).

Another good mic, if you want an all around versitile mic, that wont break the bank, built like a tank, and just sounds good on the air?

Im not a EV guy myself. Im one of the only guys thats a fanatic about radio and refuses to buy an RE20.

HOWEVER, EV makes this mic called the N/D767

It runs about $130 new, and is very simple looking.

Go and look at every review you can find for it. All the reviews complain about the plosives, because it has POWER in its low end, and lots of proximity.

This one I recorded with it

The one mic I regret giving to a friend. But This is the quality you will get RAW, with no EQ. Its especially good for women, and guys with too much high end in their voice.

Read a few reviews and they do look great but are acutely a little more expensive than the e835 in the UK. The RDV30 are a bit cheaper than the e835 but the cost difference is not significant for us. If there was something that was a little more, or even twice the price of the e835 that would be OK.

To clarify we are not looking for a general purpose mic, we are looking for one for radio. The big issue is as people talk louder/softer and move towards/away from mic there levels change and if there was a microphone that handled this better that would be a winner. We are very happy with the e835 but if there was something that worked better for guests (who obviously are the worst) that would be great.
