what's it like in the FAA?

It used to be a great job! We're so short-staffed these days it isn't funny. We have a total of 15 controllers here in Shreveport, staffing two seperate facilities on opposite ends of town, 24/7. Overtime is the norm. I think I've had maybe four two-day weekends so far this year.

Management is a joke, with supervisors micro-managing every aspect of any shift they work. Imagine working a busy, stressful job with a supervisor constantly perched on your shoulder just waiting to pounce if you so much as say a wrong word.

Pay and benefits used to be pretty decent. They've got all us old-timers stuck in the new pay bands now. I haven't had a raise in over four years, and incoming trainees will never make the kind of money I make, in fact, they could make more money as a manager trainee at Taco Bell than what the FAA pays them now.

Five months to go, and I'm out with no regrets about leaving.
