Mate Desktop Environment for Unix and Unix Like Systems

Here is one for the nerdy Unix crowd - has anyone followed the progress of the Mate Desktop and what do they think of it.

 

Mate and XFCE are my two favorites environments to run under - with XFCE being pretty much universal on all Linux / BSD variants.

(Still peeves me that OpenBSD ditched the Linux compatibility layer in the last update cycle.)

 

Gnome 3 and KDE are huge huge resource hogs and I wouldn't touch them with a 100 foot pole - Cinamon is butchered hack job of Gnome 3 and you can keep it as well.
