I'm waiting to see what they call "Competitive rates" I knew they couldn't keep the services free forever I just hope they don't start charging for the basic Shoutcast DNAS

 

I've heard nothing but bad press about their free services with stream buffering along with player issues where some streams would play and some wouldn't from the Shoutcast YP

We’re very excited to have you on-board for a 3 months’ trial.

 

 

Starting from the 13th of June 2018, your station will be automatically transferred to the new platform at 3:00 PM (CET Time).

Before your trial ends, you’ll be invited to upgrade and then you’ll be charged 14.9 €/$ every month, based on your current monthly total listening hours.

Both those links are to articles for the old free Shoutcast service.... The new Shoutcast for business sounds like its yet to be formally announced.

Thousands of small Internet radio stations went with Radionomy because they were promised it would be “totally free, no matter how big your audience gets.”

 

These small stations put up with unreliable streaming, poor customer service and four minutes of ad inserts per hour--all the while labouring under a death sentence unless they averaged 130 listening hours per day.

 

And now these stations are being told that unless they pay a monthly fee for "Shoutcast for Business" their station will be deleted?

 

Why even do business with a company like that--why not just go with a reputable Shoutcast host like ShoutcastStreaming.us or Stream101.com ?

I think they will advertise their 'automation system' as a key feature. Most stream hosts use Centova Cast or a similar system (which is not a bad system, it is industry leading for a reason), but those with gripes with Centova would most likely see the SHOUTcast offering as another alternative.

Yes, but when SHOUTcast / Radionomy hosted streams go UP and DOWN and UP and DOWN and UP and DOWN ..... why even bother going with them. The best way to lose your listening base is to be hosted by an unreliable Stream Host. Plus they want to charge money for their crappy service ??

 

The phrase "You get what you pay for" is wrong ... with SHOUTcast / Radionomy, "Good luck getting what you paid for".

100% correct, their infrastructure lacks the quality and reliability (as demonstrated these past few months), not to mention the expertise. Radionomy and SC are relatively new to the streaming server game.

Am surprised it's taken this long for it to happen especially after Vivendi dropped them last year (the reason for their re-branding) as they've forever had money issues.

 

So them complaining the existing service isn't making the money needed isn't all the surprising + the OVH service was unreliable at the best of times but it's most likely over-subscription as a means to try & keep costs down vs not wanting to pay for developers / support staff to do what's actually needed to improve & fix things.

 

I'd doubt they'd charge for the DNAS itself (that implies a level of support & maintained development they don't want to seem to do) & since they're an Icecast shop, you're more likely to see the DNAS go away than become paid for imho. It's all sad really as there was a chance to do something good & they've just trashed the reputation of so many things *shrugs*

I'm trying to get an official response on the Winamp/Shoutcast forums But I doubt that will happen.

Maybe they will charge for the DNAS but the company most likely won't say anything until it happens either way (as is their way with such things).

 

Also the hidden replies about the demise of the free streaming service also speak volumes... didn't see them until finding the article & this thread.
