Westmar
Yes and yes. It's still a very viable option to listen to specialty shows. My show still gets plenty of downloads every week.

Voxjunction
Why dont we hear about it so much? I was thinking the same thing recently. About three years ago, there seemed to be podcasts for just about everything. There used to be lots of podcast VO requests on the free VO forums. Over the last six months/year I've hardly done any work or requests for podcasters. It's a shame really as it was a great way for someone with knowledge of a particular subject or genre of music to communicate. Maybe podcasters have high expectations when they start out and get disillusioned if the download count is lower. But there's an argument that 30 dedicated listeners is better than 300 who download and never return.
James
I guess thats apples fault for not making podcasts more expandable. Its just died down. NVnone
I do believe its not as popular as it once was, but it is still around. There are a few podcasts that I listen to, and a few of my friends like them as well. I don't see it going away any time soon.

wildun
Podcasts still have a large following. Individual podcasts may not see it, but it's there. I suppose it's a matter of how many dedicated listeners you had vs how many now, and of course the content.
Unkle B
Podcasting is very muc alive and kickin. I saw an article the other day stating that it's advertising $ is rising just as fast as internet radio's has over the last 3 years. The reason you havent heard much about it is probably because it has gotten much more "niche" oriented than ever. The amount of music and Tech oriented podcasts out there right now is overwhelming! So much so if you wanted to find a good one you would spend days checking them out. Which is why I am dying to go to a live show on our station. I've been doing music podcasts for 3 years and want to keep with the music I love but am tired of trying to compete with somebody that just wants record their dance mix from a party and throw it on the internet and call it a show. I love listening to new bands and I get a true sense of pride when somebody says they bought a bands cd because they heard it on my show. It's also very cool when you get asked to emcee a music festival and more than several people come up to you and say "are you so & so? I thought I recognized your voice." So cool. brandon_g
I podcast and live stream I live stream more then podcast but I still podcast I think the reason podcasts have slowed down so much is because of the internet's live streaming sites. FirstActsAudio
As a guy who is both professional voice artist and writer I have tackled the idea of audio streams (podcasting). It is used a lot these days in terms of marketing a business brand. In other words a business may supply podcasts that are niche oriented and targeted specifically to the needs of their customers. This is done in an effort to supply added value to customers and improve business income. Maybe not tons of listeners, but those who do are getting information they might not get anywhere else. That's the value of a highly fractured podcast scene. imho.
NickolasM.
It all depends on the show. That is the way I see it.
Bizzacore
A lot of syndicated shows on terrestrial radio are pretty much podcasts broken down into segments for the local station that's running the show to run their own spots and/or music/content in between. If you take that into consideration podcasting is a lot bigger than just on the internet!

Bivs
Yes and Yes, Times are getting harder and sponsors and pulling contracts rapidly so these podcasters are either selling the ideas to other shows or getting different jobs to keep supporting themselves and lose track of podcasting. I see it happen all of the time.
