Doctorwho
Im sure some in here use Sam Broadcaster or have heard about it? Anyone familiar with it? Have a question. I use shoutcast for my station on our host, but Ive heard so many rave about how good Sam is, but what Ive actually been looking for is a program that works similar to AudioTime, to where when no one is in the studio here to run the station, we kinda need it to run on auto pilot, otherwise right now, it pretty much shuffles stuff around in our audio library. However, later down the road with MixFM101 goes on the internet, we want certain ads, commercials, pre-recorded talk shows, etc to play at a certain time during the day, but at the same time, not to cut into a song currently playing, but rather fade out the song, THEN start whichever track was scheduled to play at the time its set. Anyone know of a software or application that can do this while working with winamp or Sam? Thanks, The Who in Whoville

James
Direttore has the option of choosing an audio file sceduling for a time of day/week/month/year and will play it either after the song or will fade out the song and play the file you selected. Not sure about SAM Studiio - All-In-One Radio Communication Platform SMS | Phone Calls | Social Media | Content

1Radio
Hi. All of this is achievable in SAM with some PAL scripting and playlists. Take a look at the documentation - yeah I know ;) - there are plenty of examples of scheduling songs, crossfading between tracks etc. Unfortunately, I cant offer any help with PAL as its not my speciality - I'm more a DB person with SAMDB and MYSQL. Regards Tim

All I wanna do is use our server here and play it on Shoutcast, but with winamp, you cant do much with it, except run it manual. Theres no set options to schedule tracks, shows, and mixes at certain times during the day, month, year, time, etc. So from what Im hearing off 3 websites, it appears Sam does the trick. I just hope its not hard to learn it. Took me FOREVER to figure out how to program winamp to play on shoutcast using our server. Was horrible. And everyone around was like saying "OH ITS SOOOO EASY TO USE WINAMP WITH SHOUTCAST" Whooo hoo hoooooooooo!

MADcHATTER
We use SAM2 (a couple of DJ's use SAM3 or 4) overall its a good and simple program. Once you get it configured properly. We've never had to use the PAL Scripting function. Our host uses whats called ShoutTrans which is like an Auto DJ function. We can upload songs or, as we do, upload show segments. SAM has the ability to save shows as they happen to a file. We set ours to make a new file every 60 minutes. These we post to our server to give the new listener a cross sample of our shows when there is no live dj. We figured anyone can listen for an hour to see if they like it! We also upload those to our Podcasts. A very useful program. SAM's drag-n-drop capabilities, Playlisting, Queue and other utils makes it the best option for us to use. It also incorporates MySQL to keep track of songs and files and also transmits MetaData (tag information for Album, Artist and Title) so that can be posted on our website and in our chatroom as a song is played. If you want to sell music on your website, this would be a good option to have as you can interface it with Amazon.

dj.plazma
I've been using SAM3 for about 3 years now and can attest to its reliability and scheduling. This includes scripting for shows/spots/events to play at specific times. I've tried WinAmp and it's just too limited in just about aspect aside from playing off of a predefined list. ...and I back away because I probably did nothing to answer your question/concern. nitnitr
I used SAM for about a year. It is a decent program, but my suggestion is if you run with SAM, make sure it is on a dedicated machine. My experience, and others I know who use it, is that SAM likes to crash your computer otherwise. Not constantly, but periodically. I switched to Station Playlist, and have been very happy with it. You'll have plenty of control over all your programming with SPL if you decide to give it a try. Plus, they have great support, some neat features you won't find on SAM, and no need for PAL, which can be confusing. http://www.stationplaylist.com Either program is far superior to just running with Winamp. qmr
Well I've never used Stationplaylist but have been using Sam Broadcaster since 2003 and highly recommend it! When correctly set up and configured to your needs it's an awesome bit of kit to have. I have it playing genres, live and pre-recorded shows, activating requests and dedications and updating the website by PHP and MYSQL. It comes with good support and has many users on the Spacial Audio forum. To be honest I wouldn't know what I would do without it.
RadioCIA
SAM is really a piece of cake to use, with a little hands-on practice. You can find ready-made Pal scripts that will handle almost anything you need, but the real strength of SAM isn't the Pal-scripting, it's the event scheduler. Get comfy with building playlists and using the event scheduler and SAM can make any station sound good. Hint, you can even schedule a Pal-script to run at a given time. Orion
I use SAM 4 and never had an issue with it. It has never crashed my machine, I think it is a bit of a memory hog, but if you have enough memory you should experience no issues. As for Pal Scripting you can get many PAL Scripts doing exactly what you want from Spacious forums. Many of their users share their scripting. Here is the link for the forum on Pal Scripting within SAM http://support.spacialaudio.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=23&sid=18a8fad676e65420b6d566607ae9f62c Orion
IamPaulie
SAM can do it all with PAL scripts and clockwheels. It's a steep learning curve, but once you "get it" it's easy.
